Psalm 13 moves from cries during prolonged waiting toward trust in God's mercy. Lament and trust belong in the same psalm; grief need not be hidden before praying. Since my loved one died, ordinary moments unexpectedly bring them to mind. Grief makes familiar life feel strange. Tears can be a way of speaking to God. Begin with a small concrete response today: Write one memory of your loved one and share it if you wish.

Father, Since my loved one died, ordinary moments unexpectedly bring them to mind. Be with me here and help me bring my feelings honestly before you. Grief makes familiar life feel strange. Tears can be a way of speaking to God. Give me wisdom and courage to respond today: Write one memory of your loved one and share it if you wish. While the outcome is uncertain, help me fulfill my responsibilities patiently and receive support from trustworthy people. Let my words and actions show love as I entrust what I cannot control to you. In Jesus' name, amen.
