English
Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

English
Romans 12 urges believers to refuse revenge and seek peace as far as possible, entrusting judgment to God. Application must distinguish peace, renewed closeness, and safety. I want the other person to feel my pain, yet revenge will not heal it. Revenge lets harm direct the next step. Seeking justice can coexist with refusing to inflict harm. Begin with a small concrete response today: Pause an impulsive reply and document the incident for appropriate support. Responding to Scripture need not mean a grand decision. One achievable action today may be more honest than a vague promise to change.

As I reflect on “Let go of revenge”: Which step is within my responsibility today?
One small step today

Choose the smallest part of this reading's practice and put it on today's calendar. Pause an impulsive reply and document the incident for appropriate support.

English
Father, I want the other person to feel my pain, yet revenge will not heal it. Give me courage to do what I can today and grace to accept my limits. In Jesus' name, amen.
