English
But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

English
This conversation in Mark concerns the disciples' desire for status. Jesus redefines greatness through service and illustrates the path through his own mission. A newcomer may feel out of place, and I want to offer a sincere welcome. Welcome begins with room to choose freely. Warmth should not become pressure. Begin with a small concrete response today: Offer one practical piece of information and respect the newcomer's pace. Read the passage in its surrounding section. Notice speaker, audience, and context instead of turning Scripture into an instant formula.
