1:5–8 · James 1:5–8

English

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Reflecting in daily life · Devotional interpretation

English

James 1 invites those lacking wisdom to ask God in the context of trials. Wisdom includes responsible action amid difficulty as well as information. I want a shortcut for coursework but feel uneasy. Honesty brings learning back to real abilities and needs. Admitting confusion supports growth. Begin with a small concrete response today: Complete one section yourself and ask about a difficulty. Feelings deserve acknowledgment, but they are not the whole story. Distinguish what happened, your interpretation, and what remains unknown.

A question to sit with

English

As I reflect on “Honest coursework”: What are facts, and what are still my guesses?

One small step today

English

Write facts and guesses in two separate columns.

Prayer response

English

Father, I want a shortcut for coursework but feel uneasy. Give me courage to face my feelings and patience to separate facts from assumptions. In Jesus' name, amen.
