13:1–6 · Psalm 13:1–6

English

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me? Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved. But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

English

Psalm 13 moves from cries during prolonged waiting toward trust in God's mercy. Lament and trust belong in the same psalm; grief need not be hidden before praying. While sorting a loved one's belongings, small objects bring back memories. Lament allows reluctance to let go. Sorting has no universal deadline; keeping or releasing an object does not measure love. A small step today: Sort one small box today and stop when tired.

English

Father, While sorting a loved one's belongings, small objects bring back memories. Help me see my needs and responsibilities through your word. Lament allows reluctance to let go. Sorting has no universal deadline; keeping or releasing an object does not measure love. Give me courage to respond: Sort one small box today and stop when tired. Help me trust where things remain uncertain and receive fitting company. In Jesus' name, amen.
