Psalm 13 moves from cries during prolonged waiting toward trust in God's mercy. Lament and trust belong in the same psalm; grief need not be hidden before praying. A family member is missing from the holiday table, and I hesitate to say their name. Celebration and longing can coexist. Allow different ways of remembering without requiring everyone to respond alike. A small step today: Ask whether the family would welcome sharing one warm memory. Read the passage in its surrounding section. Notice speaker, audience, and context instead of turning Scripture into an instant formula.
