13:1–6 · Psalm 13:1–6

English

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me? Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved. But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

English

Psalm 13 moves from cries during prolonged waiting toward trust in God's mercy. Lament and trust belong in the same psalm; grief need not be hidden before praying. A path I prepared for has closed, and I grieve the effort invested. It is possible to grieve an unrealized future and slowly seek a next step. Trust does not require regret to disappear. A small step today: Write a farewell to that plan and separately list what you learned. Read the passage in its surrounding section. Notice speaker, audience, and context instead of turning Scripture into an instant formula.
