23:1–6 · Psalm 23:1–6

English

A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Reflecting in daily life · Devotional interpretation

English

Psalm 23 portrays care through images of a shepherd and a host without avoiding dark paths. Applying it to health seeks presence and provision, not a guarantee that every illness will heal as expected. Since becoming ill, I keep saying I am fine because I fear troubling others. Receiving care can begin with a small request. Others need not know every detail to offer fitting help. A small step today: Ask one friend for a specific kind of help and name your privacy preferences. Read the passage in its surrounding section. Notice speaker, audience, and context instead of turning Scripture into an instant formula.

Father, Since becoming ill, I keep saying I am fine because I fear troubling others. Teach me to listen patiently to your word, seeking understanding before application. In Jesus' name, amen.
