23:1–6 · Psalm 23:1–6

English

A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Reflecting in daily life · Devotional interpretation

English

Psalm 23 portrays care through images of a shepherd and a host without avoiding dark paths. Applying it to health seeks presence and provision, not a guarantee that every illness will heal as expected. After days of caregiving, I find patience harder to sustain. Care includes recognizing your limits. Asking for provision may mean arranging someone else to cover a period of care. A small step today: Discuss one shift or errand someone else can cover so you can rest. Responding to Scripture need not mean a grand decision. One achievable action today may be more honest than a vague promise to change.

English

As I reflect on “A caregiver needs rest too”: Which step is within my responsibility today?

One small step today

English

Choose the smallest part of this reading's practice and put it on today's calendar. Discuss one shift or errand someone else can cover so you can rest.

Father, After days of caregiving, I find patience harder to sustain. Give me courage to do what I can today and grace to accept my limits. In Jesus' name, amen.
