This conversation in Mark concerns the disciples' desire for status. Jesus redefines greatness through service and illustrates the path through his own mission. I want to arrange everything for someone in difficulty before asking what they want. Service seeks another's good while respecting choice. Actual needs should shape the form of help. A small step today: Ask what help is most needed and what the person prefers to handle themselves. Prayer does not require a performance of calm. Name gratitude, fear, questions, and hope in turn, and leave room for silence.
