1:5–8 · James 1:5–8

English

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Reflecting in daily life · Devotional interpretation

English

James 1 invites those lacking wisdom to ask God in the context of trials. Wisdom includes responsible action amid difficulty as well as information. I missed part of a lesson but fear a question will make me look foolish. Seeking wisdom begins with admitting a lack. A clear question supports learning better than pretending to understand. A small step today: Write down the exact step that is unclear and ask a teacher or classmate. Do not rush to solve the whole situation. Notice your body, surroundings, and inner voice, and bring your present need before God.

English

Father, I missed part of a lesson but fear a question will make me look foolish. Help me slow down and see this moment honestly without rushing to a verdict about myself. In Jesus' name, amen.
