If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. James 1 invites those lacking wisdom to ask God in the context of trials. Wisdom includes responsible action amid difficulty as well as information. A group assignment is due soon, but a few people carry most of the work. Wisdom includes practical cooperation. Naming tasks and obstacles creates room for a responsible arrangement. A small step today: Ask the group to confirm remaining tasks, owners, and delivery times. Prayer does not require a performance of calm. Name gratitude, fear, questions, and hope in turn, and leave room for silence.
