If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

James 1 invites those lacking wisdom to ask God in the context of trials. Wisdom includes responsible action amid difficulty as well as information. After receiving a grade, I focus on the number and miss what I learned. Wisdom is more than a report card. Reviewing understanding and open questions turns feedback into help for the next step. A small step today: Choose one problem you understand and one you do not, explaining why.

Father, After receiving a grade, I focus on the number and miss what I learned. Help me see my needs and responsibilities through your word. Wisdom is more than a report card. Reviewing understanding and open questions turns feedback into help for the next step. Give me courage to respond: Choose one problem you understand and one you do not, explaining why. Help me trust where things remain uncertain and receive fitting company. In Jesus' name, amen.
