If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

James 1 invites those lacking wisdom to ask God in the context of trials. Wisdom includes responsible action amid difficulty as well as information. After receiving a grade, I focus on the number and miss what I learned. Wisdom is more than a report card. Reviewing understanding and open questions turns feedback into help for the next step. A small step today: Choose one problem you understand and one you do not, explaining why. Read the passage in its surrounding section. Notice speaker, audience, and context instead of turning Scripture into an instant formula.
