If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. James 1 invites those lacking wisdom to ask God in the context of trials. Wisdom includes responsible action amid difficulty as well as information. After receiving a grade, I focus on the number and miss what I learned. Wisdom is more than a report card. Reviewing understanding and open questions turns feedback into help for the next step. A small step today: Choose one problem you understand and one you do not, explaining why. Prayer does not require a performance of calm. Name gratitude, fear, questions, and hope in turn, and leave room for silence.
