English
Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb: And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.

English
Isaiah 46 contrasts idols with God and emphasizes lasting care for God's people. Reflection on aging and caregiving should remember the passage's focus on continuing faithfulness. An explanation goes too quickly, and I hesitate to ask again. Begin with what actually happened and distinguish your responsibilities. A faithful response can unfold through honest words and a concrete action. A practice for today: Ask for a slower pace or written points and repeat back what you understood. Prayer does not require a performance of calm. Name gratitude, fear, questions, and hope in turn, and leave room for silence.

As I reflect on “Asking for a slower explanation”: What would I pray if I did not need to polish my words?

English
Father, An explanation goes too quickly, and I hesitate to ask again. I come in my own words; even when they are unfinished, hear me. In Jesus' name, amen.
