12:17–21 · Romans 12:17–21

English

Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Reflecting in daily life · Devotional interpretation

English

Romans 12 urges believers to refuse revenge and seek peace as far as possible, entrusting judgment to God. Application must distinguish peace, renewed closeness, and safety. I fail to pass on important information and disrupt a partner's plans. Begin with what actually happened and distinguish your responsibilities. A faithful response can unfold through honest words and a concrete action. A practice for today: Acknowledge the omission, supply the information, and set a reminder to prevent recurrence. Feelings deserve acknowledgment, but they are not the whole story. Distinguish what happened, your interpretation, and what remains unknown.

Father, I fail to pass on important information and disrupt a partner's plans. Give me courage to face my feelings and patience to separate facts from assumptions. In Jesus' name, amen.
