This conversation in Mark concerns the disciples' desire for status. Jesus redefines greatness through service and illustrates the path through his own mission. Discovering a role is unsuitable feels like giving up. Begin with what actually happened and distinguish your responsibilities. A faithful response can unfold through honest words and a concrete action. A practice for today: Discuss the difficulty and consider training, adjustment, or responsible handover. Prayer does not require a performance of calm. Name gratitude, fear, questions, and hope in turn, and leave room for silence.
