The evening after an exam

SeekLight original

1:5–8 · James 1:5–8

English

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Reflecting in daily life · Devotional interpretation

English

James 1 invites those lacking wisdom to ask God in the context of trials. Wisdom includes responsible action amid difficulty as well as information. After an exam I keep comparing answers and cannot disengage. Begin with what actually happened and distinguish your responsibilities. A faithful response can unfold through honest words and a concrete action. A practice for today: Note one improvement for next time, then return to rest and ordinary life.

A question to sit with

English

In “The evening after an exam”, which need remains unclear, and how can I respect myself and others?

One small step today

English

Note one improvement for next time, then return to rest and ordinary life.

Prayer response

English

Father, After an exam I keep comparing answers and cannot disengage. Help me face these feelings honestly and recognize responsibilities and limits. Help me begin here: Note one improvement for next time, then return to rest and ordinary life. Give me patience with unanswered questions and willingness to receive company. In Jesus' name, amen.
