23:1–6 · Psalm 23:1–6

English

A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

English

Psalm 23 portrays care through images of a shepherd and a host without avoiding dark paths. Applying it to health seeks presence and provision, not a guarantee that every illness will heal as expected. A new diagnosis frightens me, and I need to understand my clinician's advice before deciding. A diagnosis changes plans but does not define a person's worth. Care needs information and support. Begin with a small concrete response today: Review medication, follow-up, and support needs with your care team. Read the passage in its surrounding section. Notice speaker, audience, and context instead of turning Scripture into an instant formula.
