But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. This conversation in Mark concerns the disciples' desire for status. Jesus redefines greatness through service and illustrates the path through his own mission. An older neighbor receives few visitors, and I want to care with respect. Visiting an older person is more than completing a task. Respect their story and pace. Begin with a small concrete response today: Ask for a suitable visit time and prepare an open question. Review is not a scorecard. Notice small changes, what still needs time, and where another person's company may help. Growth can be slow.
