Isaiah 46 contrasts idols with God and emphasizes lasting care for God's people. Reflection on aging and caregiving should remember the passage's focus on continuing faithfulness. With less energy, I measure my worth by how much I accomplish. Begin with what actually happened and distinguish your responsibilities. A faithful response can unfold through honest words and a concrete action. A practice for today: Name one kind of company you can offer and one form of care you can receive. Prayer does not require a performance of calm. Name gratitude, fear, questions, and hope in turn, and leave room for silence.
